How to Plant a Vertical Garden

Location, Location, Location
Perhaps the most important consideration when planting your vertical garden is deciding where you are going to place it. You can hang a vertical garden indoors or outdoors (just make sure you plant it with houseplants if you’re keeping it inside), on a wall, fence, balcony, or porch.
Think about the light requirements of the plants you wish to grow in your vertical garden. Do they need full sun? Partial shade? Full shade? Place your vertical garden accordingly.
Choose Plants That Will Thrive
When planting a vertical garden, it is important to pick plants that can grow and thrive in that environment. Go for plants that have small but strong root structures and/or climbing plants. A vertical garden is just as much a visual statement as it is a nifty way to grow your favourite plants, so think about the aesthetics of what you choose to plant as well. For example, succulents have a sculptural, minimalist quality, while vining plants add more of a whimsical feel.

Always use potting soil instead of simply using garden dirt from outside.
